Flea treatment for dogs and cats

Infestation with fleas can cause skin irritation, blood loss (due to bites), transmission of the tapeworm, Dipylidium caninum, and other diseases. So it’s comforting to know that there is an effective, safe flea treatment for dogs and cats that can be used regularly on a long-term basis to protect against fleas.

Flea Allergy Dermatitis

Fleas may cause a skin disease called Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD). In sensitive dogs and cats, just a few bites may be enough to trigger FAD.

Symptoms may include:

  • Severe itching
  • Hair loss
  • Skin ulceration on the back towards the tail, rump, thighs and perianal area

Year-round flea control is an essential part of FAD treatment.

Integrated flea control

FRONTLINE PLUS is the leading treatment for year-round flea control for dogs and cats because it contains 2 active ingredients. One ingredient kills adult fleas, while the other kills flea eggs and stops larval and pupal development. This combination, called Integrated Flea Control (IFC), breaks the flea life cycle at every stage. To provide complete IFC and remove immature life stages already in the environment, before flea control was implemented, wash your pet’s bedding regularly and vacuum often too.
